Belgium was actually my first holiday trip. At that time I visited Brugge and Brussels. These cities definitely invite you to take long walks. Belgium has its own little charm and offers many opportunities for good photos.

Brugge
Okay, let’s start with Brugge. The city center with the Minnewater is incredibly romantic, especially in winter there is something very beautiful about it. I was in Belgium a few years ago in January right after the New Year. Unfortunately I have already deleted most of the photos because they were with my ex-boyfriend… well you know how it is.

At the Main Square you will find the Groote Markt. It simply cannot be missed during a visit. The houses look beautiful. Tip: Also look at the side streets. Chocolate shops are hidden there…either with Belgian pralines or ones where you can make the craziest hot chocolate creations for to-go. It is a very good investment, especially in winter.
Brussel

The capital of Belgium. There is a lot to see here. However, the best sights are far from each other and a bit hidden, but still within walking distance. The most important thing you have to see is the Royal Palace with a museum. Very interesting.
Tips
Find a hotel in Brugge. It’s cheaper there. It is also close to Brussels and only 2 hours from Paris. In addition, the hotels usually have their own parking spaces. Because believe me…you don’t want to park in Brussels. Anyone who has been there and seen the very, very tightly parked cars knows what I mean. There probably wouldn’t even fit a sheet of paper between them.
The best season for me is winter to go to Belgium. For me, the places don’t offer any attractions for which you need good weather and believe me, with rain and snow Brugge in particular is very romantic.
How long should you stay in Brussels? Well I was there for 5 days and that was way too much. In my opinion, the country doesn’t have that much to offer to keep me busy there forever. 4 days is the maximum. Tip: Since we now had one day left, we went to the North Sea. That was the best day of our trip to Belgium. Absolutely not to be compared with the German North Sea or Baltic Sea. Bigger, more romantic….has a little touch of America in terms of the beach hotels by the sea and the long pier with the restaurant inside.
Reasons to visit Belgium
Without letting it sound bad… Belgium was very boring compared to other countries. Not a country I will travel to again.
1. The architecture. Brugge is indeed overflowing with tourists. This city has its own charm that has to be seen once. It was a bit quieter in winter, which made it even more charming. And the architecture is really unique.
2. Belgian chocolate. A visit to Belgium also includes real Belgian chocolates. We all know them, but bought directly in Brussels they taste just amazing.
3. Slow down. As already mentioned, the country is a bit boring. It doesn’t have much to offer like other countries.
It doesn’t have much to offer like other countries.
Es hat nicht viel zu bieten wie andere Länder.
It doesn’t offer much like othe But it is precisely this peace and quiet and the rain that goes with it that make the holiday incredibly relaxing. Belgium is the perfect place to switch off, relax and just live your day without rushing from one sight to the next. Although I can only recommend Brugge here.
4. Visit it because it sounds boring. Yes, Belgium is not comparable to Paris, but you should plan a little trip to this country anyway. It’s perfect for a long weekend. And yes, a day trip to Brussels is also part of it.
Have you ever been to Belgium? What do you love about this country?
